Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Wednesday expressed gratitude to President Droupadi Murmu and Vice President C P Radhakrishnan for their congratulatory messages on his becoming India’s longest-serving continuously elected Prime Minister, saying that every achievement during his tenure resulted from the collective efforts and aspirations of the people of India.

‎Responding to President Murmu’s letter on social media platform X, Modi said the affection and blessings of 140 crore Indians remained his greatest source of strength and inspiration. He also reiterated his government’s commitment to ensuring that the benefits of development reach every section of society. “Rashtrapati Ji, I am grateful to you for your warm wishes and kind words. Whatever has been achieved over the years is the result of the collective efforts and aspirations of the people of India. The affection and blessings of 140 crore Indians are my greatest strength and inspiration,” he wrote.

He further noted that he was particularly pleased by the President’s reference to the PM-JANMAN initiative and the Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan, two flagship programmes aimed at improving the socio-economic conditions of tribal communities and particularly vulnerable tribal groups (PVTGs). “I am particularly glad that you mentioned PM-JANMAN and Dharti Aaba Janjatiya Gram Utkarsh Abhiyan. Our Government remains committed to ensuring that the benefits of development reach every section of society in the true spirit,” Modi said.

‎The Prime Minister also responded to Vice President C. P. Radhakrishnan’s congratulatory message, thanking him for his wishes and emphasizing that public trust continues to motivate him to work harder for the nation. “Thank you for your warm wishes, Vice President Thiru CP Radhakrishnan Ji. The trust and blessings of the people of India inspire me to work harder in service of the nation,” Modi said in a separate post on X.

Reiterating his long-term vision for the country, the Prime Minister said all his efforts would remain focused on building a developed India while preserving and celebrating the nation’s civilisational heritage. “All my efforts will continue to be guided by the aim of building a Viksit Bharat that is prosperous and proud of our civilisational heritage. No stone will be left unturned in fulfilling the dreams and aspirations of our fellow Indians,” he added.

‎The remarks came on a day when Modi crossed a significant political milestone, becoming the longest-serving Prime Minister in India’s history to hold office through consecutive electoral mandates. Having first assumed office in May 2014 and subsequently secured victories in the 2019 and 2024 Lok Sabha elections, Modi surpassed the record of independent India’s first Prime Minister, Jawaharlal Nehru, for the longest uninterrupted tenure achieved through continuous electoral success.

‎President Droupadi Murmu, in her congratulatory letter earlier in the day, had praised the transformative changes witnessed across multiple sectors during Modi’s tenure, including welfare delivery, healthcare, agricultural support, infrastructure development and governance reforms. Vice President C P Radhakrishnan also lauded the Prime Minister’s leadership and extended his best wishes on the occasion.

‎The milestone has triggered celebrations within the ruling National Democratic Alliance and the Bharatiya Janata Party, which have highlighted Modi’s decade-long leadership as a period marked by major welfare initiatives, infrastructure expansion, digital governance reforms and India’s rising global profile. At the same time, Opposition parties have used the occasion to raise questions about the government’s record on democratic institutions and governance, underscoring the continuing political significance of Modi’s tenure as he begins his third consecutive term in office.
